ABOUT

Soo Jin Jeon, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor, Aquatic Health, Department of Veterinary Biomedical Sciences

Email: Soojin.Jeon@liu.edu

Dr. Jeon earned a bachelor’s degree in aquatic life medicine from Pukyong National University, a master’s degree in fish pathology from Pukyong National University, a master’s degree in marine science from Stony Brook University, and a Ph.D. degree in animal science from the University of Florida. She is a licensed aquatic animal health inspector.

Dr. Jeon’s mission is to understand animal microbiome pertaining to health and disease and to provide new approaches for the prevention and treatment of various diseases in food-producing animals.

Her research efforts have been focused on three major areas: (1) host-microbe interactions associated with uterine homeostasis and disease in dairy cows; (2) development of chitosan microparticles as an alternative to antibiotics to control and treat polymicrobial diseases in food-producing animals; (3) mechanisms of epizootic shell disease in American lobsters.
