Irina Irimescu, DVM, MSc, PhD

Dr. Irimescu received her DVM degree in 2008 from the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Cluj-Napoca, Romania. She holds a Master of Science degree in Anatomopathological and Laboratory Diagnosis (2010) and a PhD degree in Normal and Pathological Morphology, with a focus on neuroanatomy (2016), both granted by the aforementioned institution.

Before joining the Long Island University College of Veterinary Medicine (LIU-CVM) in July 2021, Dr. Irimescu’s academic background included 4.5 years as an Assistant Professor of Gross Anatomy at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM), St. Kitts, where she served as course coordinator for Veterinary Gross Anatomy I. Her teaching experience includes active participation in the delivery of the following DVM courses: Gross Anatomy, Microscopic Anatomy and Clinical Examination Skills (Semiology). In addition, Dr. Irimescu has taught Structural and Functional Biology for pre-vet students.

Research Interests:
• Advancements in medical teaching and assessments - Pilot project of implementing iPad ExamSoft technology in gross anatomy practical assessments at RUSVM
• Interdisciplinary studies of comparative morphology: neuroanatomy, cardiovascular system, locomotor system.
• Anatomic pathology - RUSVM Intramural Grant, 2019, “Investigating the epidemiology of urolithiasis in domestic animals in St. Kitts”
