Public Safety and Security support for LIU Riverhead is provided by the Suffolk County Community College Public Safety Department. The Public Safety staff is available to assist students, faculty, and staff with public safety issues and concerns. Public Safety will provide limited assistance to students experiencing difficulties with their cars and is charged with enforcing campus parking and other College policies. Blue light emergency phones are located at several locations on the campus. The Public Safety Office is located in the Shinnecock Building, room 120. The office can be reached by dialing 631-548-3636.

All motor vehicles and motorcycles that are owned and/or operated by members of the LIU Riverhead community are required to be registered with the Student Services Office. There is no charge for this service. All motor vehicles without a properly affixed parking permit will be summonsed. Parking permits must be affixed to the left (driver's) side of the rear-side window. Vehicle registration makes it possible for Public Safety to contact you in case of an emergency. Every student at LIU Riverhead is issued an LIU photo ID card (LIU Card).
To obtain your LIU Card, go to the Student Services Office located in suite B.
At the beginning of each term and at the Transfer Orientation session, staff will be available to take student ID card pictures. If you lose your card, there is a $10 replacement fee.
In the event of an emergency (closing due to inclement weather, etc.), LIU Riverhead emergency information will be communicated to students, faculty and staff via notifications to their official Long Island University e-mail account, general announcements on the LIU at Riverhead homepage www.liu.edu/riverhead, as well as via the Campus’ emergency telephone line 631-287-8222. LIU Riverhead students should log in regularly to the My LIU web portal as it is the University’s primary method for delivering emergency information to students. Access to My LIU is available at my.liu.edu or on the LIU Riverhead home page (upper right corner).
In accordance with the provisions of the Jeanne Clery Act, LIU Riverhead’s annual security report includes statistics for the previous three calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred on Suffolk County Community College’s property controlled by LIU Riverhead; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, the Long Island University Building. The report also includes institutional policies concerning campus security issues, such as those concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other relevant matters.

LIU Riverhead coordinates its evacuation procedures with Suffolk County Community College's Department of Public Safety. Evacuation routes may change depending on the nature and location of the emergency. Follow the Emergency Evacuation Procedure posted at the exit door in each classroom and office area, and follow the directions of Public Safety personnel.
