Public Safety

Alcohol and Drugs

Long Island University recognizes that students are adults and expects them to obey the law and University regulations. All students must take personal responsibility for their own actions and behavior.

Only those of legal drinking age (21 years of age or older), may be permitted to possess or drink alcoholic beverages on campus. The University has established other guidelines regarding the consumption of alcohol. For further information, refer to the alcohol policy in the Student Handbook.

The Campus supports federal, state and local laws regarding illegal drugs, narcotics and other controlled substances. Possession or sale of such drugs is a violation of applicable laws and Campus policy.

Students of legal drinking age will be disciplined if their use of alcohol becomes a danger to themselves or others or if problems such as disorder, public disturbances or property damage arise. Violation of the Campus alcohol and drug policy may result in disciplinary action, up to and including expulsion and/or criminal charges.

The Center for Healthy Living provides assessment, counseling and referral for students with drug and alcohol problems.
