Disability Support Services (DSS)


The Learning Center’s Disability Support Services team collaborates with students with disabilities to ensure access to all programs, services, and facilities at Long Island University.

The Learning Center supports students with disabilities and all Long Island University community members to create an accessible and support environment. The Center partners with students with disabilities to establish services that enhance their access and inclusion to the LIU community. The Learning Center with LIU Promise, Enrollment Services, Athletics, Facilities, Academic Affairs, and other partners to ensure an inclusive campus for all LIU students.

Services provided through the accommodation process include, but are not limited to:

  • Testing accommodations (Additional testing time and distraction reduced locations)
  • Note-taking assistance
  • Technology Accommodations in class
  • Readers for exams
  • Special classroom seating
  • On-Campus Transportation and accessible parking
  • Single Residence Hall rooms
  • Service and Emotional Support Animals
  • Re-location of classes or programs, when necessary
  • American Sign Language Interpreting Services

Some accommodations may require advanced planning. LIU students seeking an accommodation are encouraged to register with the Learning Center at least three (3) week prior to the beginning of the academic semester.

To gain access to LIU services, students must:

  1. Disclose their disability to the Learning Center Team
  2. Submit appropriate documentation for review
  3. Participate in the Intake Interview Accommodations Specialist
  4. Complete the Accommodation Forms for each class
  5. Renew our accommodation forms each semester

ADA/ Section 504 Statement

The services offered by the Learning Center and the policies and procedures of the Disability Accommodation process meet the requirements of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
