Description

Dr. Estelle Kamler is a professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and Administration at LIU Post. A former school superintendent who previously served as an assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, a director for special educational services and an elementary principal, Dr. Kamler provides students with opportunities to experience many real-life administrative tasks and leadership events to build efficacy. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she coordinates a mentoring program to encourage aspirants, predominantly women and people of color, to seek the superintendency. Dr. Kamler also directed a legislative grant that funded a university/school partnership to design and implement instructional strategies to support high school English language learners in developing content literacy in the academic subject areas. Dr. Kamler’s research emanates from her work in the classroom as well as her service to “in the field” endeavors with a focus on leadership development, mentoring and the superintendency. Her recent publications include: “The Aspiring Superintendents’ Study Group: Investigating a Mentoring Network for School Leaders” in Mentoring & Tutoring; “Decade of Difference (1995-2005): An Examination of the Superintendent Search Consultants’ Process on Long Island” in Educational Administration Quarterly; and “Realities of a School/University Partnership: Focus on Leadership,” which she co-authored, in the Journal of School Leadership.
