Dr. Bea Baaden has been an educator for more than 35 years, 27 of those years as a school library media specialist. Bea’s work with students in the information search process approach to library research was highlighted in the book, Curriculum Partner by Carol Kearney (2000) and in the video, “The School Library: Where Learning Meets the Future” (AASL/ALA, 2000).
After retiring from the Plainedge Public Schools (Nassau County, N.Y.) in 2002, Bea became an assistant professor at the Palmer School of Library and Information Science, where she designed and implemented courses in school library management, instructional leadership and design, and teaching methods for school librarians. Bea was appointed director of the School Library Program at the Palmer School in 2009, where she has developed a blended learning school library media program for all campuses of Long Island University. in 2014, the School Library program was also offered totally online.
Bea has written a manual for graduate students in school media to use to prepare for the Content Specialty Test in library media and a guide to the professional portfolio for the library media specialist.
