Your acceptance is contingent upon successful completion of your current academic plan. If you fail to maintain eligibility, your seat may be withdrawn.

Q: I have been admitted to the program and have paid the tuition deposit, if I decide to defer my admission for another year am I guaranteed a seat?

Students admitted to the Professional Phase of the PharmD program may not defer enrollment.

Q: Will college level courses completed during high school be considered for transfer credit?

Grades of ‘C’ or better in appropriate coursework will be considered for transfer.

Q: Does having a degree give me an advantage? Will it reduce the number of years I have to study?

While having a degree is helpful for preparing for the Professional Phase it is not required for entry and therefore does not give you an advantage. An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college/ university slightly changes the liberal arts requirements (see Transfer Credit Information). The length of study depends on the number of pre-requisite courses you have completed. The least number of years of study is 4, which is the length of the professional program.

Q: Will completion of exams such as Advanced Placement (AP) improve my chances? Will I receive advanced credit?

Successful completion of any advanced coursework is considered. Transfer credit for Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), and College Level Examinations Program (CLEP) may be considered. Please have official scores sent to the Admissions Processing Center for evaluation.

Q: If I have a Master’s Degree can any of my credits transfer?

Generally, graduate and post-graduate studies cannot be applied to the PharmD program.

Q: How do I know if the courses I have previously taken will transfer?

All courses taken at an acceptable regionally accredited institution, with grades of ‘C’ or higher, and that can be applied to your plan of study at LIU, are considered for transfer credit. To determine course transferability, please compare the course description of your completed courses to the descriptions of our required courses, and confirm college approval for transfer of courses.

Q: I currently attend a college of pharmacy and I want to transfer to Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus. Are my credits transferable?

Only pre-requisite courses with grades of ‘C’ or higher will be considered for transfer. The entire professional portion of the program must be completed at LIU; therefore professional credits are not transferable.

Q: Does it matter what college I attended previously?

Yes. Your college/ university should be accredited by Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools or its regional equivalent [see Additional Information - Regional Institutional Accrediting Organization]. Courses completed from colleges/universities abroad will be considered. Applicants who have attended college/universities abroad must complete a foreign credential evaluation and, if necessary, translation [See Credential Evaluator’s List].

Q: Can I begin the professional program with pre-requisite courses still pending?

To begin the Professional Phase a student must have satisfactorily completed all required prerequisite coursework.

Q: I have attended another college and/ or university but I don’t want to transfer any credits; can I start over as a freshman?

Students who have attended a college/university after graduating from secondary school are automatically considered transfer students and are required to submit the transcripts from all colleges/universities attended for consideration.

Q: I took one course at another college do I need to submit the transcript?

Yes. Submit transcripts from all colleges and universities previously attended even if the credit is not applicable to the PharmD program.

Q: What is a cumulative GPA?

A cumulative GPA is the result of all of your individual transcripts from each school being combined. We take the total quality points and divide it by the total number of credits to determine the cumulative. All courses, even those that may not be applicable to the PharmD program, are considered in the cumulative GPA.

Q: If I have previously taken the PCAT, must I take it again?

PCAT scores remain valid for 3 calendar years. For example: A test taken in September 2016 will be considered for September 2019 entry. Scores older than 3 calendar years are not considered. We will take the highest score for an application presenting multiple valid scores.

Q: Will a letter of recommendation from my boss help?

Yes, a letter of recommendation from your boss and other supporting materials are considered.

Q: Does my experience as a Pharmacy Technician increase my chances?

While we give consideration for work experience, a strong academic background is the most important factor considered.

Q: What is an official transcript?

An official transcript is sent directly from your college or university directly to the Office of Admissions. It arrives in a sealed envelope from the school, which must be opened by an Admissions representative only; typically it also has a seal or some other identifying mark on the transcript itself that indicates an official copy.

Q: I am on the wait list, when will I know if I am accepted?

Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis. As space becomes available, seats will be offered to applicants on the waitlist. This process will continue until the class is filled and may continue throughout the spring and summer months.

Q: How can I know if I have completed all of the pre-requisite courses?

Please refer to the list of pre-requisite courses and course descriptions provided in the Long Island University Brooklyn Campus undergraduate bulletin. In addition, the applicant should reach out to the college of pharmacy to confirm that all prerequisites will be completed prior to the start of the fall semester.

Q: I am currently a Long Island University Pre-professional student; will I be guaranteed a seat in the Professional Phase of the program?

Early Assurance students are guaranteed a seat in the professional phase if they maintain the progression criteria. All other applicants to the Professional Phase of the program, including current LIU students of all majors, apply through PharmCAS before being granted consideration.

Q: I am currently enrolled in a Professional PharmD. program and I want to transfer to Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus. Should I apply through PharmCAS?

Students seeking transfer from colleges of pharmacy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) should not apply through PharmCAS. Please provide the LIU-BC undergraduate application, official transcripts of all academic work, statement of reasons for seeking transfer and a letter of evaluation/ recommendation from the dean of present college of pharmacy. Q: When is the best time to submit the PharmCAS application and supporting credentials?

Submit your application and credentials as early as possible. It takes PharmCAS approximately 5-7 weeks to verify grades; therefore, the college receives your application 5-7 weeks after you have submitted it.
