Dr. Abu Fayyad is a passionate pharmacy educator, pharmacist, and pharmaceutical product development scientist. Before joining LIU Pharmacy, he was an Assistant Professor of Pharmaceutics at the Chicago State University College of Pharmacy (CSU-COP).

At CSU COP, he taught and coordinated several pharmaceutics courses and initiated a research program in three themes, all translational/clinical pharmaceutics oriented: (1) advancing new drug delivery systems (505(b)2 FDA approval pathway-focused)/emerging modalities and technology for cancer therapy into the level of IND-enabling studies, through collaboration with top tier institutions to fast translate novel assets into clinical development, (2) establishing clinical compounding and product development facility, and (3) regulatory FDA-focused program regarding tools/methods/centers/policies for accelerating the development and approval process of new pharmaceutical products.

During his tenure at CSU-COP, Dr. Abu Fayyad has worked and secured extramural funding from the pharmaceutical industry Pfizer working on pre-clinical development of first-in-class cancer therapeutics. Further to support his work, he co-founded a biotech firm gathering industry experts’ colleagues who complement his experience and has collaborated with top tier academic labs doing research in cancer therapeutics to fast bridge their discoveries into translational aspects and subsequently into clinical development avoiding the so-called the Valley of Death. His scholarly work was recognized by several international organizations; the AACP to name a few. Moreover, he played an integral role in establishing a new intensive NAPLEX review course for the P4 students to tackle the national trend of the low NAPLEX passing rate during the last few years.

Dr. Abu Fayyad worked also as a Scientist, Product Development at several pharmaceutical companies, more recently, Modavar Pharmaceuticals, the US branch of Cadila Pharmaceuticals. At Modavar, with his team, they established a cGMP pharmaceutical product development facility for 505(b)(2) FDA approval pathway for reformulating and developing new and modified dosage forms/products for an already FDA-approved small molecules drug. Several products were developed at the established facility and submitted to the FDA for review. Dr. Abu Fayyad is also an active pharmily member, has served as a faculty advisor for several pharmacy students’ organizations, and was on several department, college, and university levels committees.

Dr. Abu Fayyad is a registered pharmacist in the state of Illinois. He is an active member of several national and international pharmaceutical organizations.
