Student Information

All graduates are encouraged to participate in the Commencement Ceremony. The ceremony will feature several commencement remarks and speakers, and each student recognized by name.

Ceremony Format

Long Island University will host its Commencement for the Class of 2021 in-person. Graduates will receive an invitation via LIU email with a link to RSVP. Each graduate may invite a maximum of two (2) guests to attend.

Multiple ceremonies may be held to accommodate all graduates and guests. Graduates will receive their specific ceremony time after May 1st. The ceremony will be streamed live on the Commencement Website for others to view.

Personalized Slides

All graduating students will receive information on how to log into the graduation site to personalize their graduate slides. Graduates will have the opportunity to upload a photo and custom text as well as ensure that their name is called properly.

Students will be able to download and share their personal slide on social media during or after the ceremony.

Cap and Gown

All students can purchase a cap and gown through the University Bookstore. The cap and gown will be shipped directly to each student’s home or available for pick-up at the bookstore for on-campus students.

Please place your order no later than April 12, 2021 to ensure your attire arrives before the commencement photo submission deadline.

Official Program

Each graduating student will receive a digital copy of the Official Commencement Program. The program will have a schedule of events, names of all graduates, and list honors and recognitions.

COVID-19 Protocols for In-Person Ceremony

Commencement will follow all New York State and CDC guidelines throughout the ceremony. As a reminder, face masks and social distancing will be required of all graduates and guests.

All graduates and guests will be expected to complete a COVID-19 health screening, scan their electronic ticket, and show proof of one of the following to enter the venue.

  • A negative PCR COVID-19 test within the past 72 hours of ceremony
  • A negative rapid antigen COVID-19 test within the past 6 hours of ceremony
  • Proof of fully completed COVID-19 vaccination
  • Proof of recovery from COVID-19 in the past ninety days
