M.S.Ed. in Adolescence Inclusive Education, Grades 7-12
This is a two-year, 36-credit*, dual-certification program that leads to New York State credentialing in Adolescent Education (biology, chemistry, english, math, or social studies (grades) and Special Education, generalist (7–12). It is an inclusive education program grounded in capacity-oriented approaches that view all students, families and communities as integral to the educational process. Students get prepared to teach diverse adolescent learners through the integration of coursework and fieldwork. Upon completion of the program, students will become reflective, inquiry-based practitioners, and they will be highly qualified to teach in inclusive secondary classrooms.
*Students may have to take up to 12 additional credits in their content area depending on prior coursework. Students entering with 30 content credits would need no additional coursework.
Program will be implemented in a nontraditional schedule called Modules:
Student cohorts will partner with selected middle and high schools, community-based organizations (CBOs), and other educational settings that serve youth in New York City.
Credits/courses will be allocated in a modular format each semester, with a cohesive, integrated content structure and credits determined by the weight of work for the term.
Courses will take place both on campus and at program partnership sites where our students will gain understandings of their students and communities.
Faculty will be present in field placements to facilitate learning, provide support and supervise students.
Program will be grounded in the missions of LIU Brooklyn and the School of Education.
Modules in this program will operate with a schedule of at least 10 hours of instruction and 40 hours of supplementary assignments per credit.

Minimum 18 credits in content area(Students need 30 content-specific credits to complete this program. If entering with 18-29 credits, the program coordinator will evaluate application materials for provisional acceptance; students would take remaining necessary content courses during program residency.)

* TAL 088/879 Textual Strategies for Educators is a writing course that must be completed by students who have placed in Level 1 or 2 on the TAL placement assessment in their first semester. *Students who score a Level 1 are only permitted to complete 3 credits with the zero credit TAL 088 writing course unless coming in as an international student; then they are allowed to take TAL 879 for 3 credits instead to meet scholarship requirements. Students who score a Level 2 are permitted to complete the zero credit TAL 088 alongside the first 6 credits in the education program.
