LIU OFFERS A SUPPORTIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT FOR PARAPROFESSIONALS
Located in the heart of downtown Brooklyn and convenient to all major subway lines, the Brooklyn Campus of Long Island University offers a supportive learning environment for Paraprofessionals who are interested in becoming teachers.
LIU partners with the NYC Department of Education’s Career Training Program and accepts vouchers only for Paras who are interested in becoming teachers through one of LIU's Undergraduate Programs in Teaching, Learning and Leadership.
As LIU students, Paraprofessionals receive support through our Paraprofessional Support Program. This program has been instrumental in meeting the academic needs of Paras attending LIU. We listen and hear your concerns, provide advice, guidance and assistance. As a support group, members can look not only to the School of Education staff and faculty, but each other, which results in a combined force towards the achievement of your professional goals.
LIU offers the Family University (FUN) Afterschool/Evening program which provides child care from 3:30pm-8:30pm. Paras can drop off their children (who are in Kindergarten to 7th grade), knowing they will receive a healthy snack and dinner, partake in an array of activities including creative arts, homework help and community building. Your children are taken care of while you earn your degree!
The LIU Wellness Center is open for students to enjoy free yoga, Pilates, aerobics and dance classes along with use of the gym and Olympic-sized swimming pool.
