Scholarship Contest for HS Students
Study Abroad in Fashion Capitals
In the Spring, we offer the students an opportunity to embark on a study abroad trip to a major fashion capitol of the world. Past trips have included Paris, Florence and Milan. On the trip, students will engage in an on-site project as well as experience the fashion, culture, working environment and commerce of a major fashion capitol of the world.
New York Fashion Week
New York Fashion Week (NYFW) is one of the most exciting and influential events in the fashion industry. During NYFW, Long Island University fashion students have worked backstage at some of the major shows. This is a fabulous hands-on opportunity to not only see the inner workings of a real live runway show, but to work with design assistants, models and production teams in action.
Industry Visits
EMBARK ON INDUSTRY VISITS TO GAIN AN UNDERSTANDING OF HOW THE FASHION INDUSTRY OPERATES. HAVE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO ACCESS TOP SHOWROOMS AND MEET DESIGNERS SUCH AS REBECCA MINKOFF, ELIE TAHARI, PHILLIP LIM, MARTIN ANDERSSON, AND THE FOUNDERS OF VINEYARD VINES, TO NAME A FEW. OUR "INDUSTRY VISITS" GIVE STUDENTS A FULL OVERVIEW OF HOW THEIR RESPECTIVE BRANDS FUNCTION. WE EXPOSE STUDENTS TO AN ATELIER SO THAT THEY CAN SEE HOW CLOTHING IS MADE FROM PATTERN-MAKING TO FINISHED SAMPLES.
