LIU Brooklyn offers the Advance Certificate in Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGNP). The 32-credit program is designed to be completed in five semesters (fall and spring) of part-time study. Graduates of the Advance Certificate in Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner program are eligible for a New York State licensure as an Adult- Gerontology Nurse Practitioner and will be eligible for national board certification through the national certifying agencies for advanced practice nursing (American Nurses Credentialing Center, American Academy of Nurse Practitioners).
Advanced Certificate in Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner offers nurses who already have earned a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in nursing, the opportunity to increase their expertise in providing care for young adults, adults and older adults in a variety of primary care settings.
Under the New York State, Modernization Act, after successfully completing the 3600 clinical hours, a nurse practitioner can independently diagnose and treat patients without a written practice collaboration with a physician
The faculty promotes a learning environment that encourages individual exploration and fosters critical thinking, decision making and professional growth.
Classes differ in their approach depending on course content. The information is delivered in lecture, lab, and seminar format. The faculty participate in the educational process as role models, facilitators, and mentors.
The courses are delivered in a blended format and are web-enhanced using Blackboard. Basic computer skills are required. Approximately 49% of the class sessions delivered online with the remaining class sessions delivered face-to-face.

Board-certified Nurse Practitioners who wish to expand into another specialty can have their academic preparation evaluated and an individualized program developed for them.
Graduates are eligible for New York State certification as an Adult Nurse Practitioner and for national certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB).
