WCWP 88.1 FM
WCWP is the student radio station at the C.W. Post Campus of Long
Island University. Located in the Abrams Communication Center of the
C.W. Post, it broadcasts at 265 watts, reaching a potential audience
of 1.5 million people.
At WCWP, students get opportunities for hands-on radio experience,
as DJs, producers, announcers, reporters, correspondents and more.
In September 1996, WCWP began broadcasting 24 hours a day--
presenting a mix of music, sports, news and public affairs. There are
4 music departments-- jazz, urban, alternative, metal-- as well as a
variety of specialty music programs.
WCWP Departments
- Music
- In addition to the four primary music formats-- jazz, urban,
alternative, metal-- WCWP has a number of specialty shows. These
include blues, ska, Latin, Christian music, classic rock,
psychedelic rock and more. There are also a few ethnic music shows:
Korean and Jewish. The Program Director is Russ Taylor.
- Jazz
- "Shades of Jazz" runs weekday mornings from 10 am to
noon. It includes smooth jazz, adult contemporary, new age, Japanese
pop and more. The Jazz Director is A'kim White.
- Urban
- WCWP's urban programming includes Mid-Day R&B Mix-- Monday
through Friday, noon to 1 pm-- as well as various evening programs:
"The Rebirth of Hip-Hop," ""360 Degrees of
Music," "The Comfort Zone" and the "Correct
Touch." Urban Director is Norman Mullings.
- Alternative
- Alternative rock is played every afternoon from 1 to 5 pm.
- Metal
- Metal shows can be heard weekdays from 5-8 pm and
Saturdays/Sundays from noon to midnight. The Metal Director is
Dustin Goldfarb.
- News
- No news is not good news.
- Sports
- Sports at WCWP includes daily sports updates, a Monday evening
sports talk show-- "The Press Box"-- and extensive
coverage of Pioneer sports. The Sports Director is Artie Aldorando.
- Public Affairs
- Public Affairs programming at WCWP includes both Public Service
Announcements and various public affairs shows. Public Affairs
Director is Jon Schweizer.
