itinerary notes...
Florence, the capital of Tuscany, is a veritable treasure house of Italian art
and culture.
In the morning a tour of Florence will include the Baptistry, an elegant
octagon with a glittering Venetian mosaic in the dome; the bronze doors are of
different periods; the East door, the masterpiece of Lorenzo Ghiberti, was
called by Michelangelo "the door of Paradise." Also visit the
Cathedral which was completed by Brunelleschi with his mighty dome; the
Campanile begun by Giotto, continued by Andrea Pisano and finished by Francesco
Talenti. Visit the Medici Chapel, the Pitti Palace, and Ponte Vecchio and the
statue of David by Michelangelo.
The afternoon is free for individual sightseeing or as desired.
