HOW TO APPLY
Studio art is an integral component of the art therapy student's preparation for practice. The program at L.I.U./ C.W. Post requires that the prospective student have basic competencies in drawing, painting and sculpture (including claywork) with an emphasis on rendering the human figure. A minimum of 15 hours in studio work and 3 credits in art history or art criticism are required for consideration.
Completing these credits, however, does not always guarantee "full matriculation status", but is based upon the presentation of the portfolio in all three studio areas.
For those prospective students who may need additional work in a particular studio area, the Admissions Committee will often confer acceptance into the program through on a "limited matriculation" status. Limited matriculation means only, that a student is in need of some remedial work in a given studio discipline or their psychology prerequisites. The program at L.I.U./ C.W. Post has become known as a standard bearer for furthering the importance of studio art as being critical for the health of the field. Whether the students' undergraduate degree is psychology, education or the humanities, thorough training as an artist will only enhance their effectiveness as an art therapist. |
