Withdrawal / Refund Policy

Students themselves must initiate formal withdrawal procedures. Failure to do so can result in loss of possible refunds or inaccurate records of academic performance (or both).

A student who withdraws from a course in which he or she is doing satisfactory work will be given a grade of W. A student registered for a course is considered to be in attendance until the date of his or her official withdrawal.

Withdrawal from courses is permissible at any time up to the deadline as posted in the semester's Schedule of Classes as published by the Registrar. A student who is doing failing work when he or she requests authorization to withdraw may be given the grade WF. The symbol UW is assigned when a student unofficially withdraws from a course. Neither WF or UW is computed in the student's average.

Students who are on academic probation when they withdraw from all courses are not eligible for readmission without their Dean's approval.

Withdrawal Procedure

Students who wish to withdraw from one or more courses must obtain a withdrawal form from the Administrative Office of the Westchester Graduate Campus (WGC). The form must list the course(s) to be dropped as well as the section. The student must obtain his or her professor's signature as well as the date he or she last attended the class. If the student never attended the class, the professor must indicate that next to his/her signature. The form must be returned to the Administrative Office of the Westchester Graduate Campus (WGC). It will be forwarded to the Office of Bursar in Brooklyn.

Students must then take the withdrawal form to the Office of the Bursar. The Bursar's Office will stamp the form and indicate the percentage of charges to be dropped. Students then proceed to the Office of the Registrar where their request is processed and a new bill in generated.

Refunds

A student may make a written request to withdraw from one or more courses before the end of the semester. If the request is approved by his or her Dean, the student will receive a refund as indicated in the following schedule. Late withdrawal can make the student ineligible for any refund. Withdrawal before the beginning of the semester or session entitles the student to a complete refund except for the deposit and applicable university fee.

Appeals

Students who wish to appeal being charged for a class they are withdrawing from may do so in writing to the Bursar. Students must obtain their professor's signature as well as the last day they attended the course on the withdrawal form in order to place an appeal. Students should forward the withdrawal form with a letter explaining the reason for withdrawal and any supporting documentation, if applicable, to the Office of the Bursar. The Bursar will review each appeal and inform the student of her decision in writing. Withdrawal forms will then be sent to the Office of the Registrar for processing.

Cancellation of Courses

The University reserves the right to cancel undersubscribed courses. When it does so, there is no program change fee.
