Recognized internationally for its "swinging rhythm section, tight vocals, and smooth blend", The Long Island Sound Vocal Jazz Ensemble from the C.W. Post campus of Long Island University is a 16-singer ensemble with rhythm section that performs vocal arrangements of jazz standards such as those made famous by The New York Voices; Manhattan Transfer; Lambert, Hendricks, and Ross; Rare Silk; Singers Unlimited; and The Real Group.
Under the direction of Jennifer Scott Miceli, this ensemble has performed at numerous venues including the prestigious Montreux and Vienne Jazz Festivals, the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts, the Iridium Jazz Club in Manhattan, and throughout much of New York State. In July 2010, the group will perform at the world famous Jazz á Juan Festival on the French Riviera.
Among its strengths is a commitment to stylistic integrity that includes vocal improvisation, vocal-instrumental interplay, and creative input from its members. The Long Island Sound Vocal Jazz Ensemble is highly professional in its presentation; the group maintains jazz tradition with a subtle, modern flair that delights and communicates.
