Westchester Campus Academic Computer Services
The Westchester Campus of Long Island University is connected to LIUNET. It is a complete network node, which means that the Local Area Networks as well as VAX and IBM (UNIX) connections can be made from there. All services that are available at the Brooklyn, C.W. Post and Southampton Campuses are available to students here, such as INTERNET, BITNET, VAX, LAN and WAN connections.
The computer labs are all connected via a Novell Network using one 486/33 MHz computer and one Intel Pentium computer as the file servers. It provides for a general access menu system for DOS and Windows with links to LIUNET facilities with connections to all computer facilities available throughout the University.
There are two areas available to LIU students and faculty. The first is an area off the library equipped with 13 Pentium PCs and printers connected to LIUNET. The second area is a computer lab located in the library building equipped with 12 286 PCs and printers on LIUNET. These rooms are available for general access as well as class reservations.
| ** Note: The Student Computer Labs are available free of charge to all members of the University Community. |

Brentwood Campus Academic Computer Services
The Brentwood Campus of Long Island University, located on the grounds of the convent of St. Joseph in Brentwood New York, is connected to the University's wide area network (LIUNET). It is a complete network node because it has its own local area network (LAN) as well as the LIUNET connections. All services that are available at the Brooklyn, C.W. Post and Southampton Campuses are also available to students here.
There are two computer labs located in the basement, near the library and the student lounge. The IBM-compatible computers in both computer labs are connected via a Novell Network using a 486/33 MHz computer as the file server. The network provides a general access menu system for DOS and Windows based programs. This LAN links the labs to LIUNET and its facilities across the University.
The general user lab consists of two distinct areas. The front of the lab has 10 IBM compatible 386 computers and one M200 lineprinter. The back section of the lab contains 14 IBM compatible Pentium 75 computers. In addition there are draft and letter quality printers available in each area. Each section may be reserved for class sessions and is available on a first come first served basis at all other times.
The second classroom/lab is reservable. It is equipped with 16 486/33 IBM compatible computers each with eight Mbytes of memory. In addition there are nine dot matrix printers. This room is available for classes only and must be reserved in advance.
Improvements to the labs are being made constantly. The general lab area was just recently updated to meet the needs of the classes being offered.
