Email POP Settings

LIU Email Services

Netscape version 4 or higher is required due to system security requirements.  If you have an earlier version, please Download and Install the update before proceeding.
  1. Run Netscape
  2. Choose the Edit menu
  3. Choose Preferences
  4. In the category box choose Mail & News Groups
  5. Click on Identity (you may need to double click on Mail & News Groups to display the subcategories).  The example below is for Profesor John Doe and his email account on the Phoenix server.

  7. Your name is your name as you wish it to appear.
  8. Email address is your email address as you wish it to appear.
  9. You can fill in the rest of the boxes if you choose to do so.
  10. Click on the Mail Servers subcategory.

  12. If you do not have an Incoming Mail Server listed, click the Add button. 

  13. If you do have an Incoming Mail Server listed for LIU, select it and click the Edit button.

  1. Server Name is your email server, host.liu.edu
  2. Change the Server Type to POP3 Server.
  3. User Name is your email username. It is no more than 8 characters long. (Students can look up their email username in their SIS profile.) 
  4. Click on the POP tab, uncheck the "Leave messages on server" option then click OK.

  6. In the Outgoing Mail Server area make the Outgoing mail (SMTP) Server your email server, host.liu.edu
  7. Outgoing mail server user name is your email username. It is no more than 8 characters long. (Students can look up their email username in their SIS profile.) 
  8. Click OK
Note: Host systems for Student accounts include brooklyn.liu.edu and cwpost.liu.edu  Most Faculty and Staff accounts are on the host system called phoenix.liu.edu
