Upgrades to take place at Southampton, Brooklyn and CW Post. A high speed switched network will be put in place in Brooklyn to parallel the existing FDDI network. At CW Post a high speed switched network will be put in place to parallel the FDDI between Pell Hall, the library and the University Center. Since these networks will parallel the existing FDDI networks there should be little downtime, and any that will be needed will be before 9AM or after 5PM. At Southampton a new high speed router and additional switched networking will be installed from Wood Hall. During the same period completion of the new underground communications cabling will take place. There may be significant network and telephone outages experienced at Southampton due to the work outside contractors will have to finish during this period. Internet traffic will not be affected !

Titan crashed with a major disk error. The system was rebuilt that night and users restored on Tuesday morning. Initially, we did not restore the old email, to allow for all the backed up mail to be delivered. All mail that was in your current mail folder prior to the crash should have been restored to a mail folder named "oldmail-oct". If you experience any problems or are still missing files, please email as much information as possible regarding the missing material to system@titan.liunet.edu
Wednesday Dec 17, at 2:29AM Eagle Crashed - Power Supply Failed
The system restarted until approximately 8AM, then Field Service Technicians replaced the power supply and returned it to normal operation by 2:45PM. All mail was stored and should be delivered, although a little late.
Monday Dec 22, from 11:32 to 11:48 AM Eagle was offline
Due to the power supply problem last week the tape drive failed and had to be replaced.
