- DO use a password that is easy to remember, so you don't have to
write it down.
- DON'T use any variation (i.e., reversed, capitalized, doubled, etc.)
of your login name, your name, or the name of a relative or
friend.
- DON'T use other easily obtained information about yourself, such
as license plate numbers, phone numbers, social security numbers,
the make of your automobile, the name of the street you live
on, the room number or building in which you work, etc.
- DON'T use a word contained in English or foreign language dictionaries,
spelling lists or commonly digitized texts such as the Bible
or an encyclopedia.
- Choose a line or two from a song or poem and use the first letter
of each word, preceded or followed by a digit.
- Alternate between one consonant and one or two vowels, up to seven
or eight characters. This provides nonsense words which are
usually pronounceable, and thus easily remembered. Use a digit
to represent one of the syllables, like 2 (to), 4 (for), 8
(ate) or 10 (ten).
- Substitute digits for characters: use zero in place of the letter
O or the digit one instead of the letter L.
- Choose two short words and make them into a single word with a digit
between them.
