A new scanning & network access system called
Clean Access from CISCO Systems is being added this semester to the
LIU Wireless Network. This new system is to enhance your security
as well as for the
campus Network security and performance.
The new system provides expanded security checks of computers accessing
the LIU wireless Network. The system prompts you
with directions if you need additional virus and operating system
patches and for antivirus software.
Accessing the LIU Wireless Network and the Internet
requires the use of your LIU email UserID and
password to log in. The process begins with opening a Web browser
(Internet Explorer, Netscape, etc.). The system
automatically redirects you to the login page, where you will log
in with your Username and Password.
The login page scans your computer for viruses. Windows users are
required to install the SmartEnforcer client. The SmartEnforcer client
does additional checking for antivirus software and operating system
patches. Macintosh and LINUX operating systems do not require client
software (but are still required to use the Web page login).
If a problem is found, you will be redirected to patch your computer
or install antivirus software. Once the computer is clean and authenticated
to the network, it will be granted access to the network enabling
you to browse and connect to the LIU Wireless Network
and the Internet.
Authentication is required whenever you are disconnected from the
network. The client (or Web login for Mac/UNIX users)
will pop up whenever authentication is required, and you will need
to login with your LIU email username
and password to access the Internet.
Keep your computer operating system patched and antivirus software
updated daily. Please consult the I.T. web page for additional information
at: http://www.liu.edu/it/brooklyn .
