A small flight of brick steps on the eastern wall of the garden leads to the former double row Magnolia Walk. Originally backed by sheared cedar hedges, the Magnolia Walk featured beautiful Chinese magnolia trees edged by dwarf English boxwoods. The walk extended from the children’s wing of the mansion and ended in the center of the rose arbor. Considering these trees were fully grown when planted more than 70 years ago, they eventually became diseased and had to be removed. However, one magnolia offshoot remains today from the original walk. A wishing well that was once owned by E.F. Hutton also stands in the center of that location.
