Welcome

News from the Associate Provost, Sylvia Blake, Ed.D.

The Westchester Graduate Campus was very busy this past fall, and the spring semester has gotten off to a fast-paced start as well. Our student body is strong, and we are looking forward to a joyful celebration of the accomplishments of our master's degree and advanced certificate program completers at Commencement on May 16.

Summer is a time when it may be possible for you to study intensively and pick up three or more credits in a relatively short period of time. If you are planning on attending summer session but have not already checked with an adviser or submitted a registration form, now is the time to act. If you have not attended summer sessions here in the past, you will find that we offer a full range of courses to help you meet your degree requirements as quickly and conveniently as possible.

Please stop in and say a personal “hello” to Xian Tan. Xian is our new full time “techie.” Xian will be on campus to assist faculty and students. You can reach Xian, Monday through Thursday 11:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m., Friday 8 a.m.-4 p.m. and some Saturdays at (914) 831-2726 if you need assistance with the Student Information System, computer lab hardware or software or LIU library access.

Under the aegis of Dr. Beth Weiner, Director of Counseling and School Psychology Programs, the Westchester Graduate Campus is awaiting New York State Education Department approval to offer two new master's degrees, each leading to licensure. The new programs, it appears, may be approved in time for September. They are in Mental Health Counseling and Marriage and Family Therapy. The search for a new full-time, doctorally qualified faculty member to support these offerings has commenced.

Finally, I am pleased to announce that the WGC will be launching a new publication aimed at alumni/ae. The “Westchester Graduate Campus Alumni News” will appear three times a year. We believe this publication will be most helpful in keeping us in touch with you and you in touch with us and each other, as you complete your studies and move forward both professionally and personally. Have a wonderful spring.
