Alumni Steering Committee
A steering committee of alumni/ae from the Westchester Graduate Campus of Long Island University met for the first time in May 2004. If you are interested in learning more about the Alumni Association please contact the committee chairman, Eric Raushenbach, at wgc_alumni@yahoo.com.

Alumni Newsletter Launched
In June 2006, Alumni received their copy of the premier issue of the Alumni Newsletter. The biannual newsletter, edited by Professor Pietarinen, featured an interview with the Westchester Graduate Campus’ Literacy Program Director, Professor Rebecca Rich, highlighted student achievements and listed alumni news. For the latest issue of the Alumni News, please download and print a copy.

2008

Fatoumata Amany, a current student, has accepted a teaching position with the White Plains School District for the 2008-2009 academic year.

Rachel Burke – Congratulations to Ms. Burke who has accepted a position as an Elementary School teacher at Purchase School in Harrison.

Mary Chappell, currently in the M.S. in Ed. program in English Education, has begun working at the Master's School in Dobbs Ferry, where she is teaching English and Drama.

Elliot Chase, currently in the M.S. in Ed. program in Math Education, has accepted a math teaching position for next year at the Master's School in Dobbs Ferry.

Tina Hall, currently in the 1-2-3 Teach program ( leading to a master's degree and certification in childhood education and special education, grades 1-6), has accepted a teaching position at P.S. 246 in the Bronx, starting in September 2008.

Cristina Hernandez, a January 2008 graduate of the M.S. Ed. program in School Counseling has accepted a position with the East Bronx Academy for the Future. This grades 6-12 school is part of the NYC Department of Education.

Mike Hirsh – September 2008 graduate of our MS in Ed. program in Social Studies and Special Education. Mike has accepted a position teaching an 8th grade inclusive social studies class at the Riverdale Kingsbridge Academy for the Fall 2008 semester. This academy (also known as MS/HS 141) serves as a 6-12 community school in Riverdale and Kingsbridge in the Bronx and is part of the NYC Public School System.

Rita Kwan – This summer, Rita Kwan, a recent graduate of the Westchester Graduate Campus, gets to study in China so that she can better teach Chinese to her students at Grimes Elementary School in Mount Vernon this fall. Rita is one of just 15 teachers from around the country who have won an award to participate in the Chinese Intensive Summer Language Institute at Northeast Normal University in Changchun, China.

Ashely Mendez, a May 2008 Graduate from the M.S. Ed. program in School Psychology has accepted a position at John F. Kennedy Magnet School in Port Chester and has also accepted a part-time position with Thera-Care in New Rochelle, administering psychological evaluations for children. Ashley is also searching for a doctoral program where she can earn a PsyD. in School-Child Clinical Psychology.

Paul Naclerio, a Jan 08’ Graduate with a Master’s in Social Studies and Special Ed has accepted a position teaching Global Studies at the Campus School, an alternative High School in New Rochelle.

Harriet Oomen, a 2005 graduate of the MBA “Fast Track” at the Westchester Graduate Campus, is in Sri Lanka for four months—from the beginning of September through the end of December--working with two micro finance institutions (MFI’s): SEEDS, a large organization that is the economic arm of a Buddhist peace organization and Women’s Development Federation, a smaller, more grassroots organization, started by women for women.

Stephanie Paul, a September 2006 graduate of the Library Science Program, has accepted a Library Media Specialist position at Albert Leonard Middle School in New Rochelle.

Crystal Broodie Stewart, a May 2008 M.S. Ed. Graduate, has accepted a position with the Mamaroneck School District for the 2008-2009 academic year.

2007

Jessica Blake – MS. Ed. in Special Education and Literacy, January 2007, is teaching special education to kindergarten and first grades at the George M. Davis Elementary School in New Rochelle, N.Y. and is a 2007 recipient of New Rochelle Special Education Parent Teacher Association's “We Are One” award.
