Computer and Library Facilities and Online Bookstore

Computer Facilities
The Rockland Graduate Campus has two computer labs equipped with IBM compatible computers. Appropriate software is available for student and faculty use. The Long Island University Network spans across six campuses and provides our students access to additional software, as well as on-line searching of every database available in the Long Island University Library system.

The main computer lab is located on the first floor of the Rockland Graduate Campus main building; the other lab is located on the second floor. Students should consult the posted schedule for hours of operation.

Online Bookstore - To purchase textbooks visit our Virtual Bookstore (MBS Direct).  MBS is one of the largest online sellers of college textbooks in the U.S. A link can be found online at www.liu.edu/rockland and click on "Buy Books" tab. Or students can access MBS directly at:
http://direct.mbsbooks.com/liurockland.htm
If a student doesn’t have Internet access, they can call 1-800-325-3252 to place an order. Textbooks should be purchased at least two weeks prior to the beginning of each semester.  Students will have several shipping options to choose from to have their books delivered to their home.  MBS Direct also offers many used textbooks to reduce the cost of buying textbooks and also offers to buy back textbooks if students wish to sell them.

Long Island University offers its students over 200 online databases, many of them full-text. This means students have access and the ability to print out articles and reports from the Library’s computers or any of the computers in the campus’ two computer labs. In addition students can access many of the library’s databases from their personal computers. Some of the available databases are: ProQuest, LexisNexis, Gale, Wilson Web, ERIC, PsychINFO and RefWorks. Students also have access to ebrary which currently offers over 20,000 full-text books, sheet music titles, maps, reports and other authoritative documents. Additionally, students can access LIUCAT, the Library’s online catalogue, which includes the book collections of the other Long Island University Libraries.

Through our Interlibrary Loan service the Rockland Graduate Campus Library is able to obtain material from other libraries. We can have items sent to our campus from other Long Island University campuses or a participating OCLC institution. OCLC consists of more than 3,000 libraries across the country.

The campus Library houses over, 9,000 books and more than 150 periodical titles, available in a wide range of areas. The library also provides a quiet and comfortable study area as well as areas for group work.

Student ID pictures are taken in the Library. Without an LIU ID card, a student cannot take out materials or access the online remote databases.

The Library staff is trained in research methods. They will be delighted to help you navigate the library and refine your research skills in your graduate study.
