AUTISM: Assessment, Analysis and Action
A Panel Discussion for Parents and Professionals. Parents, educators and health professionals should not miss this opportunity to explore relevant issues and perspectives on the challenges of meeting the educational needs of children with autism. Dr. Kathleen Keefe-Cooperman, Long Island University Rockland Graduate Campus, Director of Counseling Programs, will moderate the panel discussion. Participants who will provide various perspectives include: Stuart Goldstein, Director of Special Education for the Ramapo Central School District; Dr. JeanMarie Speckman, Associate Director of the Fred S. Keller School in Yonkers; and Eileen Muniz, parent advocate.

KEYS TO THE CLOSET: Addressing the Needs of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Students
This presentation will provide a model of identity development with implications for counseling, management and policy for this population. This workshop will provide recommendations and resources for inclusion and support. Chip James, LCSW, CASAC, is a school social worker, psychotherapist and consultant based in Nyack, N.Y., who lectures extensively to teachers and mental health professionals. He is a trainer for CANDLE and a facilitator for TRUST, sponsored by CANDLE and the Rockland County Youth Bureau.

PowerPoint, Word, Excel: You know how to use these tools. But how can you use SmartBoard™ in the classroom effectively to enhance your teaching? And how can you develop and utilize your own website to enhance communication with both students and parents? Come learn how to use these technologies effectively in your own classroom from two of our Long Island University Rockland Graduate Campus alumna who are classroom teachers in the South Orangetown School District. Alison Murphy Costello received her M.S.Ed. in Early Childhood, completed her Gifted Ed Certification Extension, and is now pursuing her Educational Leadership degree at Long Island University. Karen Sperduto earned her dual M.S.Ed. in Childhood/Literacy, completed coursework for the Gifted Ed Certification Extension, and then returned to earn a Special Education Degree.
