Hillwood Recital Hall

OVERVIEW

The Hillwood Recital Hall stage is our most intimate venue housing our lectures,  Cabaret at Club T, and children’s performances as well as a host of other activities.

The stage is situated in the north-west corner of the room. It can be best described as a 38' x 27' rectangle with the corner cut off. This fifth edge (the cut off corner) is the downstage edge of the stage. It is 30'-5" from corner to corner and is parallel to the center orchestra. The distance from the upstage wall to the downstage edge varies from stage right to stage left. The maximum distance from the upstage wall to the downstage edge is 28'-0" on the stage right side. The minimum distance from the upstage wall to the downstage edge is 14'-0" on the stage left side. Both of these measurements are to the respective ends of the 30'-5" downstage edge. (Drawings are available here

There are no wings. Stage left there is a 39" door in the upstage wall with a hallway that can be used for prop/ wardrobe storage. Stage right has a 29" door, as well as a larger wall panel that is attached by hinges, both of which provide access to the hallway. The larger door usually plays closed, allowing for a 24"x92" opening. When opened, the doorway is 66"x92". This large door usually does not play in the open position, as there is no masking from the house right orchestra seats.

There is a hallway that provides access from stage left to stage right that can be used as a crossover.

There are stairs stage left providing access to the house from the stage, and a 4'-0" wide platform extending 24'-0" along the stage right wall into the house.

LOAD IN & OUT

Load In for the space is through Tilles Center's loading dock, which is at ground level. It is approximately a 50' distance from the loading dock to the lecture hall stage, both of which are on the same level. We do have a ramp to assist loading and unloading equipment.

Please see our Backstage link for general information and equipment available for use at Load in and Strike.

LIGHTING SYSTEM

The Lighting System battens and instruments are visible to the audience but are dressed neatly and do not create an eyesore. The upstage wall is covered with black curtains minimizing reflection and bounce light. Finally, an extensive amount of color and templates are also available. There are no followspots available. Booms are not available, nor possible due to audience sightlines and no masking.

All hanging positions are deadhung above the stage floor. Hanging positions are:

  • u Upstage Wall
  • u Downstage Edge of Stage
  • u Stage Right Wall
  • u Stage Left
  • u Front of House

AUDIO SYSTEM

The sound system in the hall is very basic, but when supplemented with equipment from our Mainstage Inventory, it can be configured to meet your needs. There is a 6 channel snake permanently installed that runs from the house mix position and terminates upstage right and downstage center in standard Cannon female XLR outlets. There is also a 9 channel return snake that runs from the house mix position and splits to power the main cluster (three channels) and onstage monitors (five channels). The one remaining channel is dedicated for intercom. The main house cluster consists of three Adamson FR 121 speakers that are flown approximately 20 feet above the downstage edge of the stage. These speakers are powered by a Rane MA6 multi-channel amplifier. See our inventory of sound equipment here . Due to the limitations of the space, there is limited availability for on stage monitor mixing.  The Front of House mix position is approximately 100' from the downstage edge of the stage. The soundproof control booth is built into the house right wall overlooking the theatre at ceiling level.. Clear-Com headset communication is available offstage right, the front of house mix position, and the soundproof control booth.

DRESSIGN ROOMS

Dressing Rooms are on the same level as the stage, at most, 20' from stage right. There is 1 solo dressing room with shower, 1 solo dressing room with handicapped access, and 2 chorus dressing rooms. All dressing rooms have private bathrooms and are able to be locked if necessary.

HOUSE LIGHTS

The Venue is equipped with an ETC Unison House Lighting System and an ETC Theatrical System. The lighting control board is located in a soundproof booth overlooking the theater from house right. A monitor is available if you need to hear the actors as is headset communication between the booth and backstage. The lighting board is an ETC Express 24/48. There are 30 2.4k ETC dimmers available for 34 circuits which are located on the 5 pipes (Drawings, Plots, and paperwork can be downloaded from here)
