Lighting Specifications

OVERVIEW

Tilles Center is equipped with a complete stage lighting system including standard mounting positions, instruments, cable, and dimmer control. The system is available for scheduled performances at the Theater. The producer of the event will be charged for the personnel necessary to set up, focus and operate the equipment and to strike and restore any unusual setup. Rental of equipment not in the current inventory and purchases of color media, templates, etc., will also be the producer's responsibility.

A suggested house repertory light plot is available showing all mounting positions to scale and a typical arrangement of instruments.  This plot consists of a 4 color front wash, 4 color over-stage wash, 2 color back wash, pipe-ends, specials, and the normal compliment of FOH positions.  Tilles Center does not guarantee that this suggested plot will always be available as drawn without setup, nor does it mean to discourage companies from specifying their own plot. For maximum efficiency, companies should carefully review the enclosed information and submit a detailed plot, hookup and color list to Tilles Center technical staff at least six weeks in advance of the performance date. Provision should be included for us to contact the company's lighting designer to answer any questions we may have with the setup. Where such information is provided, our staff will make every effort to have the setup accomplished before the company's arrival.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS

THE USE OF ATMOSPHERIC EFFECTS (SMOKE, HAZE, FOG, ETC.) MUST BE DISCUSSED WITH TECHNICAL STAFF SIX WEEKS IN ADVANCE OF EVENT

The use of the effects currently require an alteration of the fire alarm system in advance of any event or event related rehearsal that requires the effects.  On event days, a fire watch must be utilized as dictated by our local fire marshal.  Costs associated with the fire watch and system alterations will be charged to the producer.

POWER

The Company Switch: For companies bringing their own lighting equipment, there is a 3-phase, 800 ampere, 120/208 service connection located stage right about 70 feet from center stage. This feed also subdivides into four 200 ampere, 3 phase switches, each separately fused. There are two five wire sets of CAM-LOCK receptacles (E1016) directly off the 800 amp service. There are (2) five wire sets of CAM-LOCK receptacles (1-E1016 & 1-E1015) which can be connected to any of the four 200 amp, 3 phase switches. The three legs and the neutral wire are female connectors and the ground wire is a male connector. A licensed electrician is available for hookups to this panel if your connectors do not match. A "transfer panel" is located adjacent to the company switch, at which all front of house circuits terminate in 3-pin 20 amp. stage plug connectors. When appropriate, house circuits can be connected directly to company road boards with standard jumpers.  Of course you are always welcome to take the easy way out and tap into our DMX network as well.

DIMMING & CONTROL SYSTEM

The control system is based around 192 CD-80 2.4kw dimmers and has the choice of two consoles in house - (1) ETC EXPRESSION 3 and (1) ETC EXPRESS 24/48. The dimmer racks have been retrofit with AVAB digital electronics and may be contolled by most modern lightboards through the GRAY INTERFACE protocol converter box, which will convert DMX512 to AVAB protocol. There are 192 permanently wired house circuits with 3 pin 20 amp stage plug connectors. Each circuit is connected to one 2.4kw dimmer. All dimmer curves can be switched to non-dim as well as linear voltage. The EXPRESS 24/48 has the capability of handling up to 96 control channels that can be soft patched with fully proportional capabilities. Up to 600 cues can be recorded on 3.5" micro diskettes and accessed at any time during the performance.

HOUSE AND WORK LIGHTS

House lights are on a totally separate dimming system controlled by an ETC Unison Architectural Dimming System. There is an LCD and Faderpanel stage right as well as a faderpanel in the lighting booth. There is an interface point in both the booth and stage right to input into this system via DMX512 and any standard lighitng console. Work light is provided by flood fixtures over the stage and wings controlled only by switches stage right.

In seat aisle lights are required to be on at every performance and con only be controlled by a local switch off stage right.

WHITE LIGHT CONCERT SYSTEM

The Concert System  stage wash creates an even white light wash across the stage and pit and is dimmable.  The system consists of  Source Four ERS's, Source Four Pars, and Source Four PARnels on a totally separate dimming system controlled by an ETC Unison Architectural Dimming System.  This system was installed in September of 2001 along with our new House Light System that provides more than adequate light on stage for white light events.  This system was specifically designed to meet the needs and limitations of lighting the worlds most prestigious orchestras.   Generally, only certain specials in this system can be re-focused or gelled.

FOLLOWSPOTS

Two Strong Xenon "Supertroupers" (long throw) are located on a flying followspot bridge over the auditorium, at about an 80 ft. throw from center stage. Each are equipped with 6 color boomerangs and headset communication is provided. Experienced operators are available for these units. There is sufficient space and power on the platform for up to two additional smaller spot units (Lycian 1275 or equiv) if required. These units are not in stock, however, and must be provided and paid for by the producer.

NOTES FOR DESIGNERS

The following suggestions are offered to designers and electricians towards achieving an efficient and successful setup in our theater:

The instrumentation shown on the house plot represents our recommendations for the best use of our equipment for a standard dance plot. In general, plots which follow this basic outline will require a minimum of setup time. We tend to run short of circuits upstage of the first electric pipe and on the booms. Please try to two-fer as much as possible in this area in order to save on long and complex cable runs.
If you would like to utilize our stock of color media, please specify Roscolux, as that is what we have most of. We will prepare as much as possible from our stock of cut color; the balance will be purchased, charged to the producer, and will remain in our stock at the end of the run. If you provide all the color, you may of course take it with you when you leave.
If you prepare a cut list for us, take note that the PAR 64 fixtures require a different frame (although the same cut size) from the 8" lekos, and the 6" fresnels also require a different frame than the 6" lekos. Please categorize them separately on the list. All color change gel must be supplied by the visiting company and must be framed prior to arrival.
