Long Island University
The Art Department at C.W. Post is a vital, exciting place to create! Our
studio classes are led by practicing artists who work closely with students to
help them develop their unique potential. Classes are small and we offer an
extensive choice of programs and degrees both Undergraduate and Graduate.
All first year students take an intensive foundation course that provides a
solid grounding in the fundamentals of art making before branching off into
major areas of concentration. Our comprehensive program is designed for serious,
talented students who also desire the strong liberal arts background and
cultural advantages a University can offer. Each semester visiting artists and
art historians conduct lectures, critiques and seminars open to all.
Full advantage is taken of the campus' proximity to New York City's wealth
of creative resources. Classes visit museums, galleries and artists' studios and
students have the opportunity to intern with some of the areas finest artists
and designers. Our numerous art studios are in a beautiful country setting and
we offer access to: a state of the art imaging facility for work in new
technologies, two galleries for the exhibition of student work and to the
University Permanent Study Collection of art housed in the
Hillwood Art
Museum.

The School of Visual and Performing Arts Labs, located in
the Humanities Building, provides the Long Island University/C.W. Post
Community, with a powerful Computer Graphics design facility. The Complex
provides undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to create
professional level computer-generated art. Our facility features 45 networked
Macintosh computers, including new Power Macintosh workstations, which have the
capability of creating animation and video production. The facility's lab is
equipped with 14 Amiga computers, also used to create digital images and
animations. Students have access to a Video Toaster, a device used to manipulate
live video. In our Mac labs, students explore and develop their own creative
concepts and styles using the latest versions of Adobe Illustrator, Premiere,
Photoshop, QuarkXPress, Strata Studio Pro and Macromedia Director programs. With
the addition of new Power PC computer workstations, students are now able to
transmit data files, send and receive e-mail, as well as "surf the global
Internet." The Amiga Lab is equipped with Deluxe Paint 4, Art Department
Professional, Digiview, and Lightwave 3-D programs. In addition, we maintain a
sophisticated lab for Communication Arts students, offering a full array of word
processing programs, such as: Microsoft Works, WordPerfect, PageMaker and
QuarkXPress.
