Swine Influenza Information

Given the current escalation of the Swine Influenza virus outbreak, which has now risen to 64 cases nationwide, 45 of those cases originating in the New York City area alone, we are taking necessary precautions to ensure that the C.W. Post Campus is prepared in the event of a health crisis. Several years ago, C.W. Post developed a comprehensive Pandemic Flu Emergency Plan, which we are prepared to implement immediately in the event of a health emergency on the campus.

Yesterday, we circulated a health advisory from Bill Milford, Director of Student Health and Counseling, to all students, faculty and staff to raise awareness about the Swine Influenza. In addition, educational health and safety flyers were posted in residence halls, Hillwood Commons, Kumble Hall, Winnick Student Center, the Library and other communal areas of the campus. These flyers are also available on the C.W. Post Student Health and Counseling Web site at http://www.cwpost.liu.edu/cwis/cwp/stuact/health/swine_flu_information.html
Please disperse these flyers within your department.

In addition, other preventative measures include: • The Division of Student Affairs staff is holding information meetings with student leaders and Residence Assistants. • The exercise equipment in the Pratt Recreation Center and the Field House are being cleaned on an hourly basis. • The Public Safety Office is meeting regularly with the Nassau County Office of Emergency Management for updates. • Anti-bacterial hand sanitizer dispensers are available in Hillwood Commons dining areas, and are being installed in the Winnick Student Center.

If you have questions regarding our emergency planning or require additional educational information about the Swine Influenza, please contact the Student Health and Counseling Center at 516-299-2345
