HOW TO APPLY
HOW DOES A STUDENT APPLY TO THE ACADEMIC RESOURCE PROGRAM?
There are two steps to the application process:
- The student must first apply to C.W. Post Campus/Long Island University and receive notification of his or her acceptance into the University. The student should check the Academic Resource Program box on the application. Please be assured that C.W. Post Campus/Long Island University does not discriminate against qualified individuals with disabilities in admission or access to programs.
- Upon acceptance into the University, the student must complete an Academic Resource Program application, write a personal statement, and submit a Diagnostic Evaluation conducted within the past three years.
WHAT REQUIREMENTS DOES A STUDENT NEED FOR ADMISSION TO THE UNIVERSITY?
All admission criteria apply to every potential Academic Resource Program student. Prospective students should call the Office of Admissions at 516-299-2900 to request an application and admissions information.
Please note that admission to the University is separate and distinct from a student’s acceptance into the Academic Resource Program.
HOW DOES A STUDENT OBTAIN AN APPLICATION FOR THE ACADEMIC RESOURCE PROGRAM?
Once a student has been accepted into the University, the Office of Admissions sends a referral form to the Program. The Academic Resource Program then sends the student an application form and other pertinent data.
IS THERE A DEADLINE TO APPLY TO THE ACADEMIC RESOURCE PROGRAM?
The Academic Resource Program has rolling admission and will continue to accept applications until the Program is filled.
WHAT INFORMATION MUST A STUDENT INCLUDE IN HIS OR HER APPLICATION TO THE ACADEMIC RESOURCE PROGRAM?
A student must submit:
- A completed application form.
- A comprehensive Diagnostic Evaluation, not more than three years old. A qualified professional must complete the evaluation and it must identify the nature of the learning disability. Results of the WAIS-III are required. The evaluation should outline the student’s strengths and needs and recommendations for instruction must also be cited.
- A handwritten essay of approximately 150 words.
WHAT HAPPENS IF A STUDENT NEEDS DOCUMENTATION OF HIS OR HER LEARNING DISABILITY?
Diagnostic testing services are available on campus through our Psychological Services Center located on the lower level of Post Hall. This service is free of charge for full-time registered students. The Program staff can also refer a student to an outside psychologist if requested. However, the majority of students are tested prior to application to the Academic Resource Program.
WHEN DOES THE FORMAL INTERVIEW TAKE PLACE?
Once a student’s application, Psycho-Educational Evaluation Report, and essay are on file, the prospective student will be invited to meet with the Associate Director for a formal interview. The interview is an integral part of the admissions process for enrollment in the Academic Resource Program.
HOW DOES A STUDENT KNOW IF HE OR SHE HAS BEEN ACCEPTED INTO THE ACADEMIC RESOURCE PROGRAM?
The student receives an acceptance letter from the Academic Resource Program along with a bill for payment of the fee. Payment of the fee secures the student’s place in the Program for the upcoming semester.
HOW DOES A STUDENT APPLY FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE IF NEEDED?
The number for the Financial Assistance Office is 516-299-2338. Please contact that office for additional information.
IS THERE AN ORIENTATION SESSION FOR NEW STUDENTS ACCEPTED INTO THE ACADEMIC RESOURCE PROGRAM?
