The Post Theatre Company Opens Its 1998/1999 Season with Judith Thompson's Sled

September 3, 1998 -- The Post Theatre Company of the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University will kick off its 42nd season this fall with the Canadian play Sled written by Judith Thompson, a resident of Toronto and drama professor at the University of Guelph.

Sled, a disturbing expose of male violence and its horrifying implications, begins and ends in the Canadian North, a world of unforgiving isolation and mystical change. "The bold, and perhaps unpalatable, suggestion in Sled is that violence doesn't shatter a community, but is incorporated into it's identity," said Ann Wilson, drama professor, University of Guelph in her article "Crowding Round Her: Violence and Female Subjectivity."

Irwin Appel of Staten Island is directing the play and the cast members include: Melissa Arleth, Massapequa; Joe Berlangero, Glen Cove; Fred Gunsch, Staten Island; Alisha Khoury, Granby, Massachussetts; David Maulbeck, Summit, N.J.; Lauren Milberger, Westfield, N.J.; Susan Snyder, York, Pennsylvania; Peter Stoll, Troy, N.Y.; Gina Rickicki, Montgomery, A.L.; and Antonio Rodriguez, Lynbrook.

Sled is being presented at the Little Theatre on the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University on October 9, 10 and 14 - 17 at 8 p.m. and October 11 and 18 at 3 p.m. Seating is by general admission and tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for students and senior citizens. The Little Theatre is not wheelchair accessible. Due to mature subject matter, this play is not recommended for young audiences.
