New JD/MBA Receives State Approval

September 2, 1998 -- A new dual JD/MBA - preparing students for a variety of careers in law firms, global corporations, government agencies and consulting firms - will be offered beginning in September in a program shared by Touro Law Center in Huntington, New York and the College of Management at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University in Brookville, New York.

The new Doctor of Juris Prudence/Master of Business Administration was approved by the New York State Education Department recently.

This dual program will promote integration between the fields of law and business administration and will provide graduates with the legal and managerial skills needed to serve effectively in a variety of professional settings.

The JD/MBA program is designed to efficiently use credits earned in both degrees. Full-time students can complete the dual program in four years while part-time students can finish in five years. JD courses are offered at Touro Law Center where students gain a background in business, environmental, labor and insurance law as well as estate and tax laws. Courses for the MBA degree are held at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University where students develop skills in financial management, leadership, marketing, capital markets and managerial communications.

The program will address such topics as the profound changes in the business world, including the shift in corporate structures, the proliferation of international business, the rapid extension of computer applications and the challenges of diverse global environments. "More than ever, society needs professionals who understand the legislative, organizational, administrative and legal aspects of business and management, including global business, corporate finance and trade regulation," said Dr. Robert Sanator, Dean of the College of Management at C.W. Post. "This dual degree will teach students how best to create an interface among legal issues, business policy, and administrative and governmental concerns."

Touro Law Center Dean Howard A. Glickstein added that it is the common goal of the professionals at Touro Law Center and Long Island University's C.W. Post Campus to keep pace with the needs of a continuously changing society. "We are fortunate to be able to combine the talent of the distinguished faculty at these two institutions to give students an opportunity for a highly specialized educational experience," said Dean Glickstein. "Both schools are rich in the human resources needed to pioneer this joint JD/MBA program which promises to maximize the potential of graduating students as they enter the highly competitive corporate world."

The Master of Business Administration at C.W. Post, offered through its College of Management, combines the best business theory with the benefits of practical and experiential learning. Touro Law Center is specially accredited by the American Bar Association and American Association of Law Schools, while the College of Management at C.W. Post is in candidacy for accreditation by AACSB-The International Association for Management Education.
