New Counseling Lab Opens at
Brentwood Campus of Long Island University
Training Center Will Help Graduate Students
Improve Their Counseling Skills
A new Counseling Laboratory at the Brentwood Campus of Long
Island University
is now serving as a training ground for graduate students majoring
in school and mental health counseling. The lab received a $20,000
construction grant from New York State through the efforts of
New York State Senator Caesar Trunzo (Brentwood). Dr. Paul Ciborowski,
a resident of Shoreham and an associate professor of counseling
and development, wrote the grant proposal.
The Brentwood Counseling Laboratory provides counselors-in-training
with opportunities to address issues unique to school counselors
who guide students through their career, job and college choices.
The students majoring in mental health counseling will focus
on marriage and individual issues, among others.
The students use the latest in audio-visual materials, such
as television cameras, video tape, audiotape and one-way mirrors
for individual and group counseling sessions. Dr. A. Scott McGowan,
chair of the Department of Counseling and Development, said,
"This grant from New York State will help to ensure that
our graduate students in counseling receive state-of-the-art
training. We thank Senator Trunzo for his efforts."
