Garden City, NY - Margolin, Winer & Evens LLP, a leading accounting and business advisory firm, knows what it takes to be a great CPA, and has set the stage for local college seniors majoring in accounting to demonstrate that they do, too.

On November 17, MWE will be sponsoring the second annual Margolin, Winer & Evens Long Island “College Accounting Challenge.”

The Quiz-show-style event, which will take place at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University in Brookville, will pit four teams of four representing the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, Adelphi University, Hofstra University and New York Institute of Technology. Newsday columnist and Political Analyst, Fox News Channel Ellis Henican will serve as the host, posing challenging accounting questions testing the students’ knowledge in their chosen field.

Already the buzz is starting on these four competing campuses to see which Long Island college gains bragging rights for the best and the brightest accounting students. Hundreds of students, faculty, friends (and school pep squads) are expected to attend and to cheer on their teams. Viewing of the competition is free and open to the public.

According to MWE Managing Partner Teddy Selinger, “We are particularly excited about holding this event during a period of unprecedented economic uncertainty. Through this challenge, we hope to place the spotlight on the accounting profession and the importance of following sound accounting and economic principles – the principles we live by and why CPAs are widely held as the most trusted advisors. And, of course, we love a good competition involving bright young people and see this challenge as a healthy, positive venue to showcase some of Long Island’s best students.”

For MWE, the challenge also serves as an excellent recruitment tool for a profession that continues to struggle in recruiting new professionals. While government job reports record the job losses nationwide as massive layoffs continue, accountants at all levels are in high demand.

The event will take place from 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at C.W. Post’s Hillwood Commons Lecture Hall, 720 Northern Boulevard, Brookville, NY.
