Poke your head into the classroom in the paralegal studies program at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University and you will see a wide variety of people – recent college graduates, returning workers and adults changing careers.

They all have one thing in common: they are on their way to new careers in a field where the number of jobs is expected to grow dramatically in the years to come, and where more than half of the jobs pay well over $50,000 per year.

Paralegal studies is just one of a wide array of career training and professional and personal development programs offered by C.W. Post's Continuing Education and Professional Studies Department. Students from all walks of life turn to C.W. Post for everything from financial planning or real estate certification to training in floral arrangement or photography.

The paralegal studies program, for example, “introduces students to a wide variety of substantive legal topics,” said Judith M. Maloney, an attorney and instructor in the program. “Since the program is American Bar Association approved, students can be assured they are receiving a high-quality education – and that quality of education transfers to the job search. C.W. Post graduates stand out in the job market because of the program's high standards.”

Clients including Estée Lauder, Northrop Grumman and Cablevision have taken advantage of C.W. Post's customized corporate training seminars and workshops. Professionals find the ongoing education they need at the Financial Planning, Legal Studies and Real Estate Institutes. The Computer Technology Institute provides the computer literacy that is essential in today's world, and shows students how to have fun with their computers, too.

“This course was very comprehensive.  I have been to many other workshops - this was definitely one of the better ones,” said an office manager from Farmingdale Physical Therapy who took part in the corporate training program. “It was worth my time and money.”

C.W. Post's Continuing Education and Professional Studies programs link the academic resources of a major university with local community needs. Through its nine institutes -- Business, Computer Technology, Virtual Studies, Breakfast Series Seminars, Financial Services, Health & Public Services, Legal Studies, Real Estate, and Personal Enrichment – the Continuing Education and Professional Services Department offers solutions for every segment of society.
