C.W. Post Finance Honor Society Wins Bronze for Membership Boom

Brookville, N.Y. -- The C.W. Post chapter of the Financial Management Association International was recently awarded the FMA Bronze National Honor Society Membership Development Award, a prize bestowed on only five percent of all FMA chapters around the world.

"This is a great honor for our organization," said Zhaohui Zhang, Ph.D., faculty advisor to the club and assistant professor of finance in the College of Management at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University. "This award recognizes the hard work of our students and the academic standards they hold themselves to."

The honor society is part of the C.W. Post student chapter of the FMA. In order to be inducted into the honor society, graduate students must have a grade point average of 3.5 or greater, and completion of one-half required coursework; undergraduates 3.25 or greater, and completion of a minimum of six (6) hours of finance.

This fall, the student chapter has seen an increase of more than 30 new members. Aside from providing networking and leadership opportunities for finance students, the chapter also provides free tutoring services for students who need extra help in finance courses.

Members of the FMA gain hands-on experience in investment management through simulated investment contests and the business world experience through guest lecturers and trips. Past speakers have been from financial powerhouses like Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, American Express, CitiGroup, Prudential, Primerica, TriGlobal and Coldwell Banker.  In September, members of the group visited the Federal Bank of New York and the world's largest gold vault, and in November, they took a tour of the New York Stock Exchange. The chapter is also planning to send members to attend the 2008 National FMA Finance Leaders Conference in Denver and the 2008 RISE symposium at the University of Dayton, Ohio.

Post students in the FMA Honor Society are: Michael Bilcik, Chester, N.Y.; Michael Biolanksy, Levittown, N.Y.; Timothy Brauner, Cazenovia, N.Y.; Michael Budischewsky, Glen Head, N.Y.; Suzanne Campese, Douglaston, N.Y.; Robert Cella, Farmingville, N.Y.; John Choi, Palisades Park, N.J.; Daniel Cohen, Oceanside, N.Y.; Theodore Damaskino, Bellmore, N.Y.; James Danaher, Seaford, N.Y.; Cristiano DeRossi, Glen Cove, N.Y.; Joseph DiPrizito, Deer Park, N.Y.; Marco Dias, Selden, N.Y.; Melissa Frohlinger, Massapequa, N.Y.; Robert Gerboth, Seaford, N.Y.; Debra Hallett, Smithtown, N.Y.; Michael Kinsley, West Islip, N.Y.; Melanie Luk, Corona, N.Y.; Gary Newman, Westbury, N.Y.; Jason Pearlman, Levittown, N.Y.; Michelle Ribacoff, Fresh Meadows, N.Y.; Anthony Rutigliano, Wantagh, N.Y.; Haresh Sidhwani, Rockville, M.D. Monica Stock, New York, N.Y.; Thomas Walsh, Flushing, N.Y.; Sabrina Widom, Franklin Square, N.Y.; and Tina Yam, Fresh Meadows, N.Y.
