C.W. Post Symphonic Band to Play at
NYSSMA Winter All-State Music Conference

Brookville, NY -- The C.W. Post Symphonic Band has been invited to perform at the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) 2007 Winter All-State Music Conference in Rochester, New York.  The conference, one of the largest state music conferences in the country, will be held November 29 - December 2, 2007 in Rochester. Their performance will be at the Rochester Convention Center on Saturday, December 1 at 10:15 a.m.

This is the first time an instrumental ensemble from C.W. Post has been invited to perform at the NYSSMA conference. The group of about 80 students was chosen from a blind review of recordings that were submitted to NYSSMA in May. The C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University was one of only two universities asked to perform.

"This conference performance will be a tremendous opportunity to provide positive national visibility, highlighting the strong level of accomplishment taking place in the C.W. Post Department of Music," said Dr. James W. McRoy, conductor of the Symphonic Band and director of the Band Program at C.W. Post.

The NYSSMA Winter Conference draws about 5,000 music teachers and administrators from all over New York State, as well 1,000 of the most outstanding high school musicians who participate in the All-State Ensembles.

The Band Program at C.W. Post includes a Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble and Pep Band. In the last nine years the groups have collectively produced 16 compact disc recordings, sponsored three regional band festivals and four performance workshops, commissioned and premiered three original works for concert band, and been chosen to perform in two state music conferences.
