C.W. Post College of Information and Computer Science
Introduces Two Accelerated Degree Programs
Five-year programs allows students to earn a bachelor’s and a master’s degree
Brookville, NY – As technology continues to be the driving force in a global society, the demand for well-educated computer systems managers and programmers is stronger than ever. To meet the needs of business and industry, the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University is offering two new and challenging accelerated degree programs that allow students to earn both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in only five years.
Students can earn a B.S. in Information Managementand Technology and an M.S. in Information Technology Education or a B.S. and an M.S. in Information Systems. Students who complete either program will be prepared for a wide range of careers, including programmer, network administrator, systems analyst consultant, project manager, technical writer, database administrator, programmer, analyst, web developer or chief information officer.
Both programs includes courses in computer science, information technology and information systems as well as electives that allow students flexibility in choosing courses that reflect their individual interests. Classes are taught by practicing computer scientists and professors who are active in the field as consultants, heads of technology companies, researchers, authors and scholars. The lessons are broad within the discipline and include human-computer interaction, design, ethical issues in IT and computer programming.
The degree programs are open to incoming freshman as well as students transferring from other two- and four-year colleges. Students take 159 credits (123 undergraduate credits and 36 graduate level credits). Students may also opt to carry less than a full-time course load and choose instead to complete the accelerated degree program at a pace that fits their needs. Students who already hold an associate’s degree in the liberal arts & sciences or in information systems can complete the accelerated degree program with only three additional years of study.
These degree programs are offered through C.W. Post’s College of Information and Computer Science (CICS). CICS is the only “i-school” of its kind dedicated to providing educational, research and professional programs that explore the complex and fascinating interactions and relationships among information, technology and people. CICS is an integral player in the information and technology communities, providing services that foster communication, build understanding and enable individual and collective advancement in information and computer science. CICS strives to enhance the understanding of information; the effectiveness of information-driven industries; and the design, development and use of products and services.
