C.W. Post Alumni to Open Off-Off-Broadway in January with
“Angry Young Women in Low-Rise Jeans”

Long Island City, NY - Twelve years after a chance pairing in a film class at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, Matt Morillo and Rich Barbadillo have established themselves in the New York independent film scene with edgy comedies like "Dingle, Barry" and "Maid Of Honor."  Next month, their focus will shift from the screen to the stage when their play, "Angry Young Women in Low-Rise Jeans With High-Class Issues," opens off-off-Broadway.

Morillo and Barbadillo formed Kings and Desperate Men Productions in 1999, the year they graduated from the School of Visual and Performing Arts at C.W. Post. Today, they're riding a wave of critical and box-office success, and credit their alma mater with instilling the resourcefulness and creativity needed to make it in the Big Apple entertainment scene.

"C.W. Post was a good experience for both of us," said Morillo. "We learned how to work with low budgets and how to roll with the punches. We learned how to work with nothing to create something."

Their first film was "The Pretenders," a romantic comedy starring a cast of unknowns produced on an almost non-existent budget.  The look at a group of twenty-somethings struggling with life's ups and downs won "Best First Feature" at the 2000 Long Island Independent Film Festival. From there, KADM Productions has produced four features, six shorts, and numerous music videos that have been seen on MTV, MTV2 and FUSE.

Their latest project, "Angry Young Women in Low-Rise Jeans With High-Class Issues," opened off-off Broadway in early 2006 to huge audiences and critical praise. After an extended run that ended in February, the show was picked up by the Theater for the New City and will relaunch on Jan. 4, 2007.

Dubbed "a raunchy look at the psychology of nervous urban goddesses," the play was written and directed by Morillo, and explores through a series of skits, the unexplainable yet undeniable differences between men and women. "Backstage" labeled it a "Critic's Pick," an honor reserved for must-see shows, and said it was "often hilarious." "New York Cool" called it "a hilarious eighty-five minute play...a must see for any Sex and the City fan."

"Dingle, Barry" won Best Feature honors at the Long Island International Film Expo and the Spirit of Independents Award at the Fort Lauderdale International Film Expo. It was released on DVD from Indican Pictures earlier this year. Aside from films, Barbadillo also has produced more than 20 music videos.
