Broadway Publicist Joshua Ellis to Speak at C.W. Post October 20

Renowned theatre press agent Joshua Ellis will share tales of his illustrious career behind the scenes on the Great White Way during a special program Friday, October 20 at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University. The lecture will be held at 8 p.m. in the B. Davis Schwartz Memorial Library lobby.

The Broadway veteran presents "Ellis in Wonderland," a performance of sorts in which he recounts what he’s witnessed backstage with some of the most famous stars--Ethel Merman, Yul Brynner, Carol Channing and Lena Horne--and the most famous shows. As a press agent, Ellis has spent his 30-year career getting the plays and clients he represents mentioned and profiled in the media.

Ellis will recall how talents such as Richard Gere and Denzel Washington were discovered; explore the joys and tears of opening nights and award ceremonies; and share other insights as to what makes Broadway tick, from eccentric, larger-than-life producers to demanding divas. He will also discuss his other professional work, including stints as a press agent for Barry Manilow and Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.

The performance, sponsored by the Post Library Association, is free. A dinner will be held before the performance from 6-8 p.m. in the Hutchins Gallery for $28 per person. Reservations are required for dinner.
