Brian Hughes Named AFCA Division II Assistant
Football Coach of the Year
January
4, 2005- C.W. Post Assistant Football Coach Brian Hughes was selected
in December by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA)
as its 2004 Division II Assistant Coach of the Year.
Hughes will accept the award during the annual AFCA Convention,
to be held in Louisville, KY from January 8-11, 2005.
Hughes recently finished his seventh season as the Pioneers' offensive
coordinator and ninth year overall at the school. During his time
as the architect of the team's offense, C.W. Post has compiled a
64-13 record, won three conference titles and reached the NCAA Division
II playoffs twice.
Despite an almost annual change at quarterback, the Pioneers have
averaged 381 yards of total offense per game during those seven
seasons. Hughes was in charge of play calling during the memorable
era of current Tampa Bay Buccaneer Ian Smart, who completed his
collegiate career at C.W. Post with over 6,700 rushing yards and
the all-time college football record of 570 points and 95 touchdowns.
In addition to his award, Hughes has also been asked to give three
presentations at the prestigious Nike Coach of the Year Clinic in
Orlando, FL from March 4-6, 2005.
