Author of "The Reluctant Spiritualist: The Life of Maggie Fox"
to Speak at C.W. Post - March 8

February 23, 2005 - Do you know the origins of the term "soul mate"? Or that "free love" was a Victorian concept? To hear more about the dramatic story behind these ideas, you're invited to attend author Nancy Rubin Stuart's talk and slide presentation about her new book The Reluctant Spiritualist: The Life of Maggie Fox.

The lecture will be held on Tuesday, March 8 at 1 p.m. at The Hutton House Lectures, C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, 720 Northern Boulevard (Route 25A) in Brookville. This true-life tale about the 19th century teenager who co-founded spiritualism, reads like a modern soap opera. Trapped into a web of family intrigue that forced her to become one of America's first mediums, then romanced by glamorous Arctic explorer Elisha Kent Kane, and finally appearing before 3,000 people at the New York Academy of Music with a public confession that sent shock waves through America, Maggie's story in The Reluctant Spiritualist is one that you will never forget.

Nancy Rubin Stuart, a prize-winning, best-selling author, has given several lively talks at the Hutton House in previous years on her earlier book, American Empress: The Life and Times of Marjorie Merriweather Post.

Reservations are required. Call 516-299-2580 for more information.
