“Camp Business: The Learning Journey”
50 Long Island High School Students Graduate from Innovative Program sponsored by Commerce Bank and C.W. Post
On Thursday, August 25, 50 highly motivated high school sophomores and juniors celebrated the completion of an intense two-week business camp at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University in Brookville, NY. Participants in “Camp Business: The Learning Journey” were chosen from a pool of 115 applicants from 72 area schools. Enrollment was free, and at the conclusion of the program, four teams of students were awarded laptop computers or iPods for their work in a culminating business-style competition.
The Camp Business summer program is designed to provide high school students the opportunity to increase their understanding of modern business practices beyond what is conventionally taught in the classroom. There camp featured a special focus on entrepreneurship, but a variety of management topics were also covered, including problem solving, the utilization of technology, and leadership and team building in the workplace. The curriculum was designed to spark creativity, develop decision making and leadership skills and demonstrate that business can be fun and engaging.
Students attended various college-level courses and workshops developed and taught by professors from the AACSB-accredited College of Management at C.W. Post and executives at Commerce University. Classes were held at the new College of Management Center for Learning at the C.W. Post Campus in Brookville.
