Kraft Foods Awards $1,000 Grant to
Hillwood Art Museum Education Program at C.W. Post
Grant to benefit students in high-need school districts
August 26, 2004 – Kraft Foods has awarded a $1,000 grant to Hillwood Art Museum Education Program to provide innovative learning programs to children in high-need school districts throughout Long Island. Located on the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, the highly acclaimed museum strives to make its exhibits relevant to a new generation of museum patrons. The grant was made through Kraft's Contributions program, spearheaded locally by Battle Creek, MI, by a charitable contributions committee at Kraft's Post Cereals plant - founded by C.W. Post himself.
Each year, nearly 2,000 students come to the Museum with their teachers to experience art in a real life environment that supplements their classroom learning. The Museum provides teachers with a Curriculum Resource Guide prior to their visit so that they can incorporate the Museum’s offerings into their classroom instruction.
Once at the Museum, trained educators begin with the basics, such as the proper way to behave in a museum setting, and progress to more sophisticated discussions on the historical context of the Museum’s exhibits. Every school visit concludes with the children creating artwork of their own.
The grant will allow the Hillwood Art Museum Education Program to expand its offerings to a wider audience of high-need children.
The announcement comes as the C.W. Post community prepares for its 50th anniversary celebration from September 2004 to August 2005. Kraft Foods, Post Division and the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University share a common history that dates back to the founding of the college in 1954, when the new campus was named after breakfast cereal creator, Charles William Post.
Kraft Foods markets many of the world's leading food brands, including Kraft cheese, Nabisco cookies and crackers, Philadelphia cream cheese, Oscar Mayer meats, Post cereals and Milka chocolates, in more than 150 countries.
C.W. Post is one of six campuses of Long Island University, the seventh largest private university in the United States. With more than 13,000 full- and part-time students, C.W. Post offers a broad range of undergraduate and graduate programs in accountancy, business (AACSB accredited), computer science, liberal arts and sciences, library and information science, education, health professions and nursing, public service, and visual and performing arts.
