C.W. Post Professor Celebrates
90th Birthday
Dr. Dan Levin, the oldest member of the faculty at
the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, celebrated his 90th
birthday with friends and co-workers on Monday, March 8, 2004. Dr.
Levin, who is an author and scholar specializing in creative writing
and Russian literature, currently teaches three undergraduate courses
in creative writing and western literature.
He is the author of several books including Spinoza:
The Youth of the Philosopher and Stormy Petrel: The Life and Work
of Maxim Gorky, which portrays traumatic events that took place
during Dr. Levins immigration from Russia to America during
the Great Depression. He also authored From the Battlefield: Dispatches
of a World War II Marine, and the novel Mask of Glory, created by
his experiences in the United States Marine Corp during World War
II. His later works include The Dream in the Flesh and Son of Judah.
Dr. Levin, who received his Ph.D. from the University
of Chicago, became a full-time professor of English at the C.W.
Post Campus in 1963. Although Dr. Levin retired in 1982 he continues
to teach in the English Department and holds the title of Professor
of Emeritus of English.
