Girl Scouts to Honor C.W. Post Chancellor

February 9, 2004 --The Girl Scouts of Nassau County will honor Theresa Mall Mullarkey, Chancellor of the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University in Brookville, with the Juliette Low Award of Distinction. The organization will present the award at its Annual Luncheon on October 26, 2004 at the Garden City Hotel.

Theresa Mall Mullarkey has devoted much of her life to helping others attain a quality education. For more than 20 years she has worked tirelessly to raise funds for student scholarships, including the Theresa Mullarkey Endowed Scholarship at C.W. Post, the Thomas F.X. Mullarkey Professorship at Fordham University and the John and Laura K. Mall Scholarship Fund at Wellesley College. She currently oversees several building restoration projects at the C.W. Post Campus in Brookville and serves on the Landscape and Buildings Committee of Wellesley College in Massachusetts. In addition, a generous donation she made to the C.W. Post Campus is helping to restore and upgrade the historic mansion that houses the C.W. Post Admissions Office. She has graciously served as Chancellor of C.W. Post Campus since 1993 for an annual salary of one dollar.

"My family has always been deeply committed to providing educational opportunities for young people," said Mrs. Mullarkey. "A college education is a wonderful gift that should be made available to students from all walks of life." Mrs. Mullarkey's fervor for education stems from her upbringing. Both of her parents were professional educators -- her father was a school superintendent and her mother was an English teacher.

"Theresa Mall Mullarkey's dedication to higher education is extremely admirable," said Donna Ceravolo, Executive Director of Girl Scouts of Nassau County. "It is only matched by her commitment to the community and her professional achievements."

Theresa Mall Mullarkey's commitment to the community is astounding. She has served on boards for her local library, Parents Association and the Grenville Baker Boys and Girls Club. She is an active member and Governor of the Creek Club in Locust Valley (she was the first woman ever to serve as an officer). She is a long-time supporter of Momma's House, a home for single mothers and their children in Brookville -- she was instrumental in establishing a secure playground for the children who live there. Mrs. Mullarkey is a Trustee of the New York City Police Foundation, which raises funds for bullet-resistant vests and community outreach programs. She is also a Trustee of Long Island University and Wellesley College. Mrs. Mullarkey serves as a Chairperson for the C.W. Post Council of Overseers, which helps raise scholarships for students.

Professionally, Mrs. Mullarkey founded Mall Associates, a personal financial planning firm. Prior to that, she worked at Merrill Lynch. She was also employed by the Ford Modeling Agency, during which time she appeared in Glamour, Mademoiselle and on the cover of Harper's Bazaar.

Mrs. Mullarkey received the Mary M. Lai Model of Faith Award from C.W. Post's Catholic Parish in February 1997 and she was honoree of the C.W. Post College of Management Alumni Chapter Golf outing in April of 2000.

"Mrs. Mullarkey's dedication to the community and her ability to take action for what she believes in, make her a real Girl Scout in spirit, and that's why we chose her to receive the Juliette Low Award of Distinction," said Ms. Ceravolo. "We thank her for accepting this honor."
